In these 3 minutes video below, edited from the webinar on the 15th of December on “The Search for Identity”, I’m highlighting two of the aspects that sometimes lock us up in our Identities:
- The Identification with the Language and
- The more Unconscious Cultural Identity
Regarding the foreign languages, technology has managed to mitigate the practical discomfort, attenuating it, so the negativity left is actually the natural group response to the external changes, and its desire to preserve things the way they were.
Cultural Identity is much harder to be mitigated, because, first, we need to understand our own cultures, and why some of the things are important to us, while others “should” be rejected at all costs. This work is not easy, and for sure it is not helpful if it is done superficially. With cultural identity, the biggest frictions appear with Immigration and, more subtly, with the 2nd and 3rd generations migrants.
