In Search of Identity or Meaning

identity

Identity is the Group’s way of ensuring its survival. Identity is also the Group’s way of engaging its members, and of ensuring their survival and their welfare. Identity is the Group’s unconscious way of projecting itself into the future through its members that are yet not born.

However, Identity is also the reason groups resist change, regardless of whether the change is something objective coming from the outside environment. Identity will lock groups into believing outdated things, un-useful things, and most dangerously will allow humans in groups to see each other as enemies.

As Individuals we have options and we can choose consciously. Will we leave behind us to our children a world with more war, more suffering, and more destruction? or we will transcend the current blockages and leave a slightly improved world? These blockages are mostly coming from the mismatch between how the external environment has unquestionably transformed and how we were educated to perceive the environment and form our expectations. Every once in a while, these blockages come from populist messages, meant to divide people for the sake of some business people.

Education in understanding our options and the opposite preferences of other humans will definitely help in the slow progress towards a less egoistic and less ethnocentristic world.
